The Challenge:

Design a creative solution that brings the beach scene to the California lifestyle retailer’s environment. Create a unique visually compelling experience geared towards its young, energetic shoppers while adding more authenticity to its SoCal beach décor.

The Experience:

Needing more than just props and video footage, PlayNetwork conceived a live 24/7 video feed from the famous city pier in Huntington Beach, CA. a.k.a. Surf City, USA. With high-quality technology, partners, and production gathered from across the globe, we captured the live surf scene from customized pier-mounted, beachfront cameras and then distributed it via private satellite and secure network to over 500 domestic and international Hollister locations. The striking digital video experience, a 5ft x 5ft, nine-monitor panel has turned the store into a place to hang out and added authentic dimension to the space. The finishing touch was branded on-screen messaging with Huntington Beach time and temperature.

The Result:

If the sun is shining in southern California, it’s also shining in Hollister stores. Day or night, shoppers can be transported to a live SoCal beach experience. With friends engaging in live interactive events between the pier and the store, the video wall is not only a portal for fun, but has turned Hollister into a branded experience that offers a true experience that symbolizes the Hollister experience and drives a deep connection for their customers. In 2005, Hollister received the “Digital Retailer of the Year” award at the Digital Retailing Expo.
