Talk to Sales

Daniel Muff

Hi. I’m Daniel, a Swiss-born, West Coast-based Music Supervisor here at PlayNetwork. Ever since Agnetha, Björn, Benny, and Anni-Frid got me hooked on impeccably written & performed pop tunes, I have been unable to stop my obsession with discovering new & classic gems. I am feeling very lucky that my music journey as a fan, DJ and collector has brought me to working with world-class brands, every day. Who knew? There I was, in 1984, standing on a dining room chair in our living room, taping Madonna’s “Holiday” off the radio holding my portable tape recorder/alarm clock as close to the speaker as possible.

tatsuya-hayashi

Tatsuya Hayashi

Born into a family with a lyricist father and a composer uncle, I grew up in a family that would not buy me toys, but would buy me records. In the 90s, I attended a high school in Shibuya, Tokyo, and as a result of being strongly baptized in the “Shibuya-kei” style of the time, my friends ridiculed me, saying, “You buy CDs like you breathe”. After that, I became very interested in the music business and studied abroad in Seattle, Washington, majoring in “Music Business”. At the time, Seattle was attracting worldwide attention with the heyday of grunge rock, and studying in Seattle at this time had a profound impact on the rest of my life. After graduation, I worked as a store manager/buyer at the CD store “OPUS” in Pasadena, a suburb of Los Angeles, California. Then I worked for a record company/management in Los Angeles before returning to Japan. Currently, I am working as a curator/university lecturer (music business/copyright law)/artist overseas manager/Japanese subtitles, etc.

Adam Hollander

Adam is the VP, Marketing at Octave Group. He works on all OG business units including PlayNetwork and TouchTunes.

His favorite artists include Justice, The Blaze, Soulwax, Jon Hopkins, Gesaffelstein, The Chemical Brothers, Modeselektor, and Troyboi.

Tommy Virga

Hi, I’m Tommy Virga a Brooklyn-based DJ and music supervisor. I have been DJing and curating music for the top hospitality brands for the past 15 years. I have always had an emotional relationship with music. As a child, I would analyze every lyric and put myself into the song. I had a song for every accusation and person in my life. That quickly grew into making mix tapes for friends & family and that’s when my love of curation started. Searching for rare records, unreleased songs, remixes, bootlegs, and edits became an obsession of mine.

I started DJing around the same time and eventually worked my way into the local bar scene. As I navigated the industry, I found myself in the Hamptons in the summers DJing the hot spots in Montauk & East Hampton. It was there I honed my skills of beat matching, transitioning and setting up songs for dance floors. Since then I have DJed all types of fashion shows, festivals, clubs & hotels all over […]

Matthew Hayman

Hi, I am Matthew Hayman, a Music Supervisor at PlayNetwork in our London office. I’ve been working in the music industry for over 20 years, where I have curated music for an array of influential and prestigious brands, venues and events throughout the world. Starting out in early 2000 as a promoter, artist and label manager, my focus more recently has been as a DJ and music curator. I have been especially lucky to have DJ’d in cities from London to Berlin and during this time, work with an array of incredible musicians throughout the world.

Kate Siem

I’m Kate Siem, an Associate Music Supervisor here at our lovely Redmond office. Working here has been a perfect fit, a professional outlet for a lifelong personal love of music.

It all started with an obsession with the local oldies and Motown radio station as a child and transformed to include the many surf, garage and punk DIY shows I started attending during my high school years in Southern California. Once in college I immediately joined the college radio station, KVCU 1190. During my tenure in Boulder, CO, I made sure to stay on-air, with radio shows ranging from riot grrrl to city spotlights. Having promoted, attended and enjoyed a milieu of shows in the Denver/Boulder area I found myself in the Emerald City just over three years ago.

Once here I dove into Seattle’s new (to me) and mysterious music scene. I began working with a group that booked shows, tours, put out local comps, and a whole gamut of music related activities. My focus was on garnering press […]

J.D. Tierney

Hey, I’m J.D. Tierney, and I’m PlayNetwork’s summer 2019 music services intern.

I grew up in the rural outskirts of a town called Arlington (here in Washington state), but, thanks to growing up in the information age, I was able to become a underground hip-hop obsessed computer nerd by the time I hit high school. Since then and through college, I’ve gotten a kick out of helping people find their new favorite songs and artists.

I love 1) learning and 2) music, so my time at PlayNetwork has been immensely enjoyable since I’m exposed to music I may not have found on my own.

If you catch me in a rare moment when I’m not re-listening to snippets of new Playboi Carti music from live performances, I’m probably making music on the computer or reading. My favorite author is Osamu Dazai, but I more strongly recommend all humans read Ficciones by Jorge Luis Borges. At my core I like explaining why esoteric art shouldn’t be so!

Patrick Milgram

Hello! My name is Patrick Milgram and I’m an Associate Music Supervisor at PlayNetwork. Prior to joining the team here I was working in Digital Advertising in NYC. My passion for music and the outdoors ultimately led me to Seattle where I’ve been involved in the local music scene however and wherever possible – this has included DJ assisting, stage managing, and helping run sound at venues. Simply put, music has always played a very significant role in my life and I couldn’t be more excited to have found an opportunity where I can continue to learn and be surrounded by people with a shared passion.

Brittany Ward

Hello! My name is Brittany Ward and I am a Music Supervisor at PlayNetwork.

My love of music comes from the eclectic tastes I was introduced to growing up, from listening to Nirvana and The Beatles with my dad to Alan Jackson and Chicago with my mom. I was also a competitive figure skater and chose all my own music and would piece it all together (with cassette tapes!). I discovered my love of rap music at a young age after watching music videos on TV and downloading music on Limewire (when that was popular).

I graduated from Washington State University with a degree in journalism and during my time there was involved in many forms of radio, including having my own hip-hop show every week where I met many people across the state in the Northwest hip-hop scene, which was growing rapidly at the time. After graduation, I worked with many artists, venues and influencers in Seattle. Giving back to the music community is important to me, so I […]

Pete Greenberg

Hi, I am Pete Greenberg, a music supervisor at PlayNetwork with more than 15 years of experience in the music industry.

My passion for music began as the alternative music director for my high school radio station in the early 90s. After continuing into college radio, I switched to independent concert promotion working with a ton of great bands from all over the Northwest. I moved to Seattle in 1997 and joined the ranks of Sonic Boom Records for several years before eventually moving on to handle the booking duties for The Crocodile Café followed by Chop Suey.

Most recently, I shifted out of the club world and into corporate life, working on programming for Microsoft’s Groove Music program (previously Xbox Music). For Microsoft I covered UK and Ireland territories while also having a hand in curating music channels and playlists for Italy, Belgium, and Spain. Finally, I have landed at PlayNetwork as a music supervisor!

Personally, I am a big fan of the Northwest music scene, New Wave, and […]

Nicholas Johnston

Hello, my name is Nicholas Johnston and I am the music and messaging coordinator for PlayNetwork. I have been in the industry for over three years.

When I was growing up, my parents loved classic rock, and listening to it played throughout the house on a regular basis shaped who I am today. By the time I was 13, I was playing the guitar, bass, and drums in my basement. I would use a multitrack program to overdub myself to create songs. I had so much fun, that I couldn’t think of a better job than being in audio production and music.

After living in Naples, Italy, for almost 10 years, I made the move to the beautiful Pacific Northwest where I attended The Art Institute of Seattle and got my Bachelor of Science degree in audio design technology. During my junior year I started interning at Jazz Alley and after four months they hired me as their audio engineer. I continued with Jazz Alley until I left for PlayNetwork […]

Ruben Lira

Hello my name is Ruben Lira and I am an associate music supervisor for PlayNetwork. I have been in the industry for 14 years.

The desire to learn to play The Kinks, “You Really Got Me,” plus picking up my first instrument, had me hooked on music. I soon started playing in bands, and realized I could actually make a living in music. This led me to pursuing my passion. I received my Bachelors in music from The University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio Texas, studying a variety of music, ranging from classical to jazz to world music in the Mediterranean and Middle East. I also studied music therapy for 2 years which allowed me to appreciate all forms of music.

Prior to joining PlayNetwork, I worked all around the music industry—at record labels, music companies, and even writing blogs for Tour Worthy. Most recently, I worked at Knick Knack Records and Sarathan Records.

When I am not procuring and editing music, assisting with client and brand relations, or […]

Julia Cummings

Hello my name is Julia Cummings and I am the music services director at PlayNetwork. I have been in the industry for 15+ years.

My dad played bass in a Dixieland band so I was dancing around to “Ain’t Misbehavin’” long before I understood how to misbehave. Growing up I had a healthy diet of the Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Janis Joplin, Leonard Cohen, and Otis Redding. My diverse record collection would confuse someone who might try to pigeonhole my musical taste. When people ask me what genre of music is my favorite: I always say I like music that is, well, genuine.

Spending a lifetime as a sponge absorbing music led me to pursue audio production. Prior to starting with PlayNetwork in 2005, I did some time as a production assistant and a remote broadcast engineer at KEXP-FM and as a board operator at KWJZ-FM. And like all radio mythologies, I got a fill-in shift at KWJZ-FM and ended up keeping the weekend slot for a year.

Spencer Manio

Hey, my name is Spencer Manio and I am a Senior Music Supervisor at PlayNetwork.

I bought my first pair of Technics 1200 turntables when I was 16 years old. A few months later I DJ’ed a high school dance. Ever since then I’ve been: a record store manager, a wedding DJ, music marketing guy, club DJ, music producer, music supervisor for TV commercials, and everything in-between.

I spend my days making sure all my clients have the coolest on-brand jams playing at their stores. Equally important is that I try to break up & coming artists and bold progressive sounds to the mainstream masses. It’s creatively satisfying to know you’ve helped give new art a broad platform, exposing something unique to the masses.

Inspired by: Cy Twombly, DJ Premier, Stanley Kubrick, Young Thug, Running, My Family, Agnes Martin, Donny Hathaway, Sneakers, David Axelrod, James Baldwin, Larry Levan, Georgia O’Keefe, Spike Lee, Octavia Butler, Maurice Ravel, Tierra Whack, Mitch Hedberg, Fender Rhodes, Jack Kirby, Tyler, The Creator, Ray Bradbury, and […]

Tim Shaw

Hello, my name is Tim Shaw and I am a music coordinator for PlayNetwork EMEA. I have been in the industry for almost 30 years.

I started DJing in 1988 at top clubs including Venus, Deluxe, The Bomb, and Stealth through the 90s and 00s. I have also worked in record shops and owned my own independent clothing retail outlet. My experiences give me a unique take and understanding of all genres of music and their place in retail and other environments.

At PlayNetwork I have a large number of playlists for which I am responsible for sourcing content and updating, which includes a wide range of regional content and electronic music.

When not busy at PlayNetwork, I am a producer and remixer as one half of Coyote running the Is It Balearic..?, Magic Wand, and Uber record labels, where we have over 60 vinyl releases under our belt.

Scott Zgodzinski

Hi, my name is Scott Zgodzinski and I am a music production coordinator/editor at PlayNetwork. I have over 20 years of experience in the industry.

Music was always a part of my life growing up, but after convincing my mom I needed KISS Alive!, my Fisher Price turntable was never the same (and neither was I). I became infected with rock n’ roll at that moment. The makeup, fire, blood, bombs, and riffs were far more exciting to me as a young boy than a dude with a flower necklace and a ukulele.

Knowing I had to work with music, my first job was at a local foreground music company splicing quarter-inch tape reels and running high-speed duplication bin loop machines. A lot of my experience is in multimedia audio production and mastering engineering as well as post-production editing for Microsoft and Google Maps.

At PlayNetwork I assist the music supervisors and video ops team in anything from editing to client demos and web radio to DVD Authoring. But my […]

Scott Danuser

Hello, I am Scott Danuser and I am the supervisor of messaging services for PlayNetwork. I have been in the industry since 2005.

After listening to the Nirvana’s album Nevermind countless times, I quickly taught myself how to play guitar and sing at age 10. A couple of my friends and I started a cover band, and well, the rest is history. This turned into my life-long fascination of figuring out how to achieve sounds from my favorite records.

In college I started out studying psychology, but then I quickly figured out I should stick with my passion for music and switched my major at UCSD to audio production. I interned at Capitol Records, and then went on to start my career at Hum Music & Sound Design as their audio engineer. Then it was on to Technicolor mixing audio for movies. Moving to Seattle brought me to PlayNetwork in 2011 where I not only use our state-of-the-art studio to master productions and record voice-over artists, I am the lead […]

Paul Wain

Hi, my name is Paul Wain and I am the senior music supervisor for PlayNetwork EMEA and have been in the industry for over 30 years.

I accidentally fell into the role of DJ at student events, based on the criteria of having the best record collection (20,000+ !!) to be able to do the job. It was no surprise when I started managing the vinyl department at Selectadisc, which is where my encyclopedic knowledge of all genres of music was honed. This experience made the progression to music supervisor a natural step, doing something where I could utilize all of the skills aquired.

Over the last five years at PlayNetwork, I have programmed music playlists for such brands as Jimmy Choo, Harrods, Jo Malone, Ted Baker, Ray-Ban, Starbucks, Cath Kidston, Costa Coffee, and KFC (to name a few). The great thing about working with so many different types of brands is that I am able to program everything from 50s R&B to modern electronica and anything in between.

When […]

Nicole Maroutsos

Hello, my name is Nicole Maroutsos and I am a music supervisor at PlayNetwork. I have been in the industry since 2004.

Curiosity is probably what got me into the music business; I’ve always been very open-minded to art and culture. My first radio job out of college wasn’t music related, but the program director of the station instantly recognized my passion for music and ability to identify what songs would become hits. This led me to assisting with the music programming and launching me into a career in music. My background is very diverse: from traditional radio to web radio; for a small independent music platform and for a major, mainstream music platform; with tiny mom-and-pop retailers and with globally known brands.

At PlayNetwork I spend hours researching music, seeking out new tracks that reflect a certain brand client’s image, learning about my clients and what makes their customers unique in order for their music to enhance their brand. I feel lucky that I get to work in music, […]

Matt Stockton

Hello, my name is Matt Stockton and I am the music services director at PlayNetwork UK. I have worked in the industry for over 20 years.

I was immersed in music at an early age – having much older brothers as a child meant I would sneak in to their rooms when they were out and sit for hours listening to their vinyl collections! Like many kids growing up, I learnt to play multiple instruments and, like many people as they get older, don’t get the time to play anymore which is a real shame!

I studied performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London before completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Music. My fascination with production techniques and making music sound the best it possibly can, led me into a career as a mastering engineer, working with artists from Mercury Rev to the Gorillaz.

I joined PlayNetwork in 2010, and my knowledge of a diverse range of music has been a perfect fit. I am […]

Mark Campbell

Hello, my name is Mark Campbell. I’m a musician, producer, and DJ with over 25 years in the music industry. I began my career as a music supervisor with PlayNetwork in 2009. A lifelong fan of music, my connection was established early on with childhood trumpet lessons and an upbringing in a very musically-influenced home.

As a music supervisor, I curate and program custom music playlists for national and international brands that align with their brand pillars and consumer demographics. I often tell people that my time spent DJing (at weddings, parties, nightclubs, etc.) was the best preparation for my current position. Over the years, I honed the craft of “reading the room” and playing the right song at the right time.

When I’m not curating playlists for brands, I spend time in my home studio creating my own music – utilizing my collection of vintage analog synthesizers (some of these compositions have been placed in film, television, and video games). You’ll also find me, each football season, at CenturyLink […]

Kalla Vavra

Hello, I am Kalla Vavra—an associate music supervisor at PlayNetwork. And bonus: I also assist in voice talent for our messaging team, which means you may have heard me while you are out shopping.

Growing up in a family that had very eclectic tastes in music definitely translated into a love and respect for all types of music. I learned to play the saxophone early on in school, then self-taught the flute, clarinet, piano, guitar, and drums. I loved TV and movies in high school and really wanted to write film scores. This led to me studying music theory and composition in college.

At PlayNetwork I assist the music supervisors, manage my own accounts and scrub every song for any questionable lyrical content as well as categorizing the different aspects of the tune itself.

I am lucky because not only do I get to listen to music all day, which I love, I get to see the live bands PlayNetwork brings in to perform for our PlayLive sessions. There’s nothing […]

Holly McCormack

Hi, I am Holly McCormack, the manager of licensing at PlayNetwork. I have been in the industry for almost 25 years.

I started really listening to music when I swiped my Mom’s Janis Joplin record around age 5 or 6. That was my first step towards becoming the full-fledged rocker chick that I was in high school; spending all of my spare time at concerts or listening to music.

I discovered quickly I wanted to work in the business side of music and after doing a little research – mostly reading the backs of CD jackets – I discovered the major label regional distribution offices and found my first internships at Relativity Records & Mercury Records. I was hooked. I eventually worked for a seminal hard rock radio show in Chicago doing both music programming, concert promotion & sales, then I transitioned into radio promotion for the music trades, independent promoters, and record labels such as TVT, Arista, and EMI. I moved into licensing work with ASCAP before coming to […]

Grady Tyree

Hey, I am Grady Tyree, the label relations / procurement manager at PlayNetwork. After watching KoRn destroy Atlanta as part of the 1997 Lollapalooza tour, I knew I wanted to work in music.

I have been in the industry for over 20 years, starting out at Sony Music Entertainment working in four markets (Atlanta, Detroit, Chicago, and Seattle) before landing a job at Easy Street Records and making my way to PlayNetwork in 2012.

You could say I’m a “gatekeeper” of sorts; content has to come through me before it hits our vast library. I get to listen to great music that flows through our circuits, sometimes before the general public, sometimes after, assist in discovering new, unsigned talent via our client requests or supervisor requests. And, if that isn’t enough, I co-chair our PlayLive events for our in-house concerts.

When I am not immersed in the music world, you can find me looking for the next best camera angle at Easy Street Records, a local concert or with my […]

Gabriel Marowitz

Hey, my name is Gabriel Marowitz. I am a self-admitted roots music nerd but really enjoy any music you can dance to.

After working in many corners of the music business, I am currently a Manager of PlayNetwork’s Music Department where I program the Starbucks playlist, along with many other retail brands. I am excited about how today’s music industry continues to adjust to the digital age.

When not busy at the day job I’m either out at a show, picking tunes on the mandolin at my local bluegrass jam, or watching the Seattle Sounders try to make a run at the MLS Cup.

Dean Sven Carlson

I’m Dean Sven Carlson, Global Catalog Manager here at the Octave Group/PlayNetwork, making sure we have the most robust and relevant, cleared music library for our worldwide client base.

I feel lucky to say that I’ve been in the music business my entire adult life, starting out as a DJ and Music Director at my high school radio station (Bellevue, Washington) segueing quickly to 10+ years in broadcast radio, playing the hits and breaking artists. I was introduced to Peter Gabriel’s WOMAD Festival in the late 90s and it changed my life, solidifying my love for modern global music, leading me to launch a syndicated radio show heard in over 25 countries and being more involved with international artists and labels.

I’ve been a Music Supervisor now for over 10 years, curating playlists for a variety of brands, and work closely with both the Curation and Licensing teams. I never stop listening to new music, and nothing makes me happier than discovering a new favorite band and turning someone onto […]

Alex Ruder

Hi, I am Alex Ruder, a music supervisor at PlayNetwork with over 15 years of experience in the music industry.

I have had a passion for music since I was a kid, growing up listening to Seattle’s KUBE radio station (RIP) and creating mix tapes from radio recordings that I would then share with my friends. Thanks to the Internet, I soon found a passion for finding underground artists that weren’t played on the radio, and my obsession for discovering and sharing music by artists from all over the world blossomed.

My love for electronic music enabled me to break into the radio world: first volunteering at the UW’s Rainy Dawg Radio, and later interning at KEXP in Seattle—both experiences that ultimately led to hosting a weekly overnight variety show on KEXP in 2008, a time slot that I held down for over 8 years. I’m still involved at KEXP, hosting variety and electronic on-air shows, assisting the music director with reviewing new music, as well as booking and producing […]

Aaron Voros

My name is Aaron Voros, and I have been working at PlayNetwork as a music supervisor for the last five years.

So how did I get into the music industry? When I was younger, I participated in music at school, hung out with friends who listened to a ton of contemporary music, and eventually ended up studying music in college. I thought, why not have a career in music? Fast-forward through many music company internships, until I landed one at PlayNetwork—and I haven’t looked back.

I get to program music for a really broad client base, ranging from super family-friendly brands to upscale fashion brands. I spend as much of my time trying to find music that will resonate both with the brand and the customer, and since my programming is pretty diverse I get to listen to many different types of music.

And, like anyone who sits in an office, I get to answer a massive amount of email, but everything is better when you get to listen to […]

Chris Robles

Hi! I am Chris Robles, a music supervisor at PlayNetwork, and I have been in the music industry since 1999.

I can’t remember when I haven’t been listening to music. Growing up my parents always listened to music around the house. As I got older, I shared music with friends and we watched a ton of music videos (I mean, who didn’t?).

My love for various styles of music and my experience of understanding the music branding industry is probably what drove me into the music business. I started working in production, and later joined a promotion company where I designed promotional material. I also worked to book DJs and bands like George Clinton & Parliament, Spinderella, Questlove, Pete Rock, and DJ Lord (Public Enemy), to name a few.

I started at PlayNetwork in 2009 and continue to multitask, working with clients that span the retail landscape—fashion, home décor, hotels, bars and restaurants. I love discovering new music I know will work perfectly for one of my brand partners. And […]

Alex Espinosa

Hey, I’m Alex Espinosa, music supervisor and curator here at PlayNetwork with over 30 years of music industry experience.

As the youngest of three, I have my older brothers to thank for my eclectic taste in music which ranges from The Beatles to AC/DC and everything in-between – throw in my early teen years in the 80s when I discovered music on my own, and you have to add Post Punk bands like Joy Division and New Wave music. I really just love all things music.

It all started out in Southern California at 16 with my first job at a record store called Licorice Pizza, which grew into radio work, then onto music branding companies such as Muzak and landing here at PlayNetwork in 2011. Working in this industry for so long, I can honestly say that the best thing I get out of all of this is being able to discover new music from all over the world that could be new to someone’s ears.

If I’m not […]
