Heather’s Song of the Day: Puttin’ On The Ritz

This week is all about one hit wonders and I’m starting it all off with one of the biggest one hit wonders of the 1980s, Taco’s “Puttin On The Ritz.”

“Puttin’ On The Ritz was a cover of an Irving Berlin song made popular by Fred Astaire in 1946. Nearly 40 years later, Taco put his own spin on it, making it a worldwide smash once again. The song hit number 4 on the Billboard Top 40 and the album After Eight sold over half a million copies in the US alone. Unfortunately, Taco’s follow up songs never lived up to the high expectations brought on by “Puttin’ On The Ritz,” and his subsequent album was a flop.

Here is a “live” performance (he’s simply lip-syncing to the single mix) of “Puttin’ On The Ritz” from 1983.

Enjoy!
