When i first heard Roxy Music, it was on MTV in the early 80’s. I liked them, but to me they were smooth adult music and Brian Eno was the guy who was producing Talking Heads & U2. In the late 80’s I went to Tower Records where my buddy Steve worked and picked up Street Life on cassette. This was a revelation as it contained a good chunk of music that i’d never heard before from ANYBODY! That whetted my taste buds considerably but it wasn’t until the mid 90’s when i picked up The Thrill Of It All, a four-disc retrospective, that i was converted. Roxy Music were now my 2nd favorite band of all time, a title they still hold today! Their music, especially the earlier stuff is unmatched by anyone I’ve ever heard, and i suspect ever will. Roxy Music broke up in 1983, and Bryan Ferry continued the smooth sound for his solo career. However, in 2001 my prayers were answered and the guys reunited and toured the world (without Eno). I was fortunate enough to see them live in Vancouver, BC and while i expected it to be good, what i actually experienced was nothing short outstanding! No bandwagoners there like you’d find at say Radiohead or Wilco. No, just pure love for the music. What an experience! Here’s ‘Remake/Remodel’, with maybe the best lyric ever, ‘CPL593H‘
