Heather’s Song of the Day: Leavin’ On A Jet Plane

For the second time this week my Song Of The Day post has been dedicated to a departed soul. Mary Travers, the “Mary” of Peter, Paul and Mary, died yesterday from complications of a bone marrow transplant used to treat her leukemia. She was 72 years old.

Peter, Paul and Mary were one of the best-selling folk artists of all time. Their biggest hits included “If I Had A Hammer”, “Puff, the Magic Dragon”, “Where Have All The Flowers Gone” and today’s Song Of The Day, “Leavin’ On A Jet Plane.”

My parents were huge fans of Peter, Paul and Mary and their music was often heard around my house. I think it was one of the first bands that I could identify and name by hearing one of their songs. Listening to their music is certainly one of my earliest childhood memories. Others that I have talked to say the same. So rest in peace, Mary. You will be missed.
