Heather’s Song of the Day: Listen To Your Heart

During my junior high school years I listened to a LOT of Roxette. For me, the pure pop songs released by Swedish duo Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle were the perfect way to cleanse my aural palate between hours of listening to Nirvana and Pearl Jam.

Roxette had four number 1 hits in the US from 1988-1991; “Listen To Your Heart,” “The Look,” “It Must Have Been Love” and “Joyride.” Two other songs, “Dangerous” and “Fading Like A Flower (Every Time You Leave)” hit number 2 during that same time period. After 1991, however, the band started their slow decline in popularity here in the states. Despite losing ground in America, the group continued to release albums in the rest of the world into the early part of this decade. Now, the group’s entire catalog has been remastered and all of the albums have been re-released with additional bonus tracks. In honor of this occasion I thought it only fitting to make “Listen To Your Heart,” Roxette’s first number 1 hit in the USA, today’s Song Of The Day. Enjoy!
